F*&! Joe Torre
Since Joe Torre breaks our hearts, this blog will break his balls. Every day of the season I will detail the errors, misjudgements, and omissions that make him the most overrated manger in the history of the game (even more than Tommy Lasorda!). But Joe Torre is not just one bum in hero's clothing (i.e. the pinstripes); he is the quintessential counterfeit of excellence, a figure who embodies the triumph of the ersatz that pervades every aspect of our culture. No organization in sport, nay in civilization generally, has manifested a committment to continuing greatness like the New York Yankees, a beacon to all, in every field of endeavor, that the best is always possible. How intolerable is it then that the Yankees should be managed by a mediocrity on stilts, a figure with a reputation for greatness without any of the attributes thereof. Beginning with Torre and ending with Torre, this blog will look to smash idols we create out of inadvertence, ignorance, and complacency.

Torre mismanaged the bullpen beyond belief last night.
First problem, taking out Villone too early. He only pitched 1.2 innings (19 pitches) and could have gone to 3. I consider Villone the most reliable guy out of the bullpen, and yes, I'm even counting Mo in there too.
Second problem, TJ Beam. When I saw him on the mound after the commercial break I knew we were going to get roughed up. I never liked what he has done. Speaking of which, WHERE IS MATT SMITH AND HIS 0.00 ERA OVER 12 INNINGS? Smith belongs on the roster and Beam should be nowhere near it with his 12.38 era in 8 innings.
Third problem, bringing in Proctor. Ok, I like him, but only when he has rest. He wasn't supposed to be available for the game. He should have gotten that first grounder and that should have been the first out. He shouldn't have been in AT ALL.
Fourth problem, Mike Meyers warming up and warming up and warming up and warming up and... Well, you get the point.
We lucked out with Chacon getting that double play and obviously Giambi's 2 run HR.
My conclusions?
-TRUST RON VILLONE.
-Bring back Matt Smith, send back Beam.
-Don't use Proctor every game for more than one inning.
-Use Meyers.
Oh and F*&! Joe Torre!
Jeez,I agree with every single word. Even about Procter. He is so incredibly overused that when he collapses, its hard to tell whether he is at fault or the blame rests entirely with Torre.
Beam can't seem to get his slider over for strikes and while he throws the fasball 95, he elevates it every third pitch or so, to where it is really hittable.
Chacon was a serviceable relief pitcher at one point in his career. Can he be of any use now? I don't know. I do think though that the more confidence slow-Joe reposed in Villone, the better and better he'd be.
Well Fasano is definitely an upgrade on Stinnett, if only because he can give a reasonable impression of a major league hitter. In that regard, he's probably better than Flaherty as well. He can throw the odd runner out as well. But no he's not as good an option as Widger, whom both of us have had the opportunity of seeing regularly the past couple of years. widger a better hitter and, more importantly a better, more athletic receiver. They went with fasano out of familiarity (he was in the system before) a besetting Torre vice if ever there was one.
