F*&! Joe Torre

Since Joe Torre breaks our hearts, this blog will break his balls. Every day of the season I will detail the errors, misjudgements, and omissions that make him the most overrated manger in the history of the game (even more than Tommy Lasorda!). But Joe Torre is not just one bum in hero's clothing (i.e. the pinstripes); he is the quintessential counterfeit of excellence, a figure who embodies the triumph of the ersatz that pervades every aspect of our culture. No organization in sport, nay in civilization generally, has manifested a committment to continuing greatness like the New York Yankees, a beacon to all, in every field of endeavor, that the best is always possible. How intolerable is it then that the Yankees should be managed by a mediocrity on stilts, a figure with a reputation for greatness without any of the attributes thereof. Beginning with Torre and ending with Torre, this blog will look to smash idols we create out of inadvertence, ignorance, and complacency.

And if the Yankees winning a game with defense isn't a sign of the apocalypse I don't know what is. Helluva catch Melky.

I agree with you about leaving Wang in. I'm going to do a post today about Torre's recent handling of Wang.

I'm going to have to go with Torre on this Wright/Johnson thing. On the one hand, the weather reprts I'm getting suggest a rainout is a distinct possibility. More than that, though, asking the Yankees to sweep the Sox--or vice-versa--is a tall order, and I don't think you want to in any way dilute the importance of winning this series, or for the Sox the pain of losing it--by turning their getaway victory, if such it should be, into a big deal involving marquee pitchers. If they're going to win, let them beat Wright, who won't even be starting come playoff time. On the other hand, if the Yankees win with Wright, that'll really be shoving their noses in it.
